This is so dependent on price point, cuisines you like, cuisine you might not get somewhere else – be more specific and I'm sure everyone here will have some great recommendations!

Price doesn't really matter. Just looking for some tasty food that we will be talking about when we leave. Some places we loved was kokkari, swan oyster, pearl 8101,golden boy pizza, cassava, za pizza and the farmer market @ ferry building.
Thinking we need to finally try a cioppino, mission burrito and some dumplings. Open to all suggestions.

i really just love cancun. I last went to La Taqueria in 2016 or so and I walk past it 2-4 times a week.

Tu Lan, for the best (and "most different") Imperial Roll anywhere, and a lemon beef salad. And you get a taste of one of SF's most unsavory blocks, too! I've been eating there periodically for nearly 40 years (except that time years ago the health department shut em down)!

Go hit up Shuggies Trash Pie.

https://www.shuggiespizza.com/

Also : https://heirloom-sf.com/
Heirloom Caf was founded with two concurrent ambitions: to offer a wide variety of aged wines from a carefully managed cellar, and to serve simple, very well-prepared food at reasonable prices.

Our wine cellar and our love of mature wines are the foundation of our restaurant. We have been actively identifying and sourcing wines from our favorite producers in California and regions all over Europe for many years, and we are thrilled, every night at the restaurant, to be able to offer dozens of different wines which have had years in the bottle to improve.

The kitchen at Heirloom is dedicated to offering a menu which is concise, seasonal, highly selective, and exceedingly tasteful. We are not any more interested in working with harder-to-find, esoteric ingredients than we are in working with very good carrots and onions. Whatever the time of year, we pride ourselves on developing plates and presentations which maximize flavor, aesthetic beauty, integrity, and value.

Finally: https://www.laciccia.com/

La Ciccia is an intimate restaurant located on the edge of Noe Valley. La Ciccia will take you to a culinary journey through the Italian island of Sardinia. The chef is committed to use the freshest and the most authentic ingredients from this incredible Island, resulting in pungent, lively, flavorful food. The all Italian wine list contains 170 labels and a selection that represents every region with more than a quarter devoted to Sardinia in order to pair the traditional, earthy flavors in addition to the seafood influence of Sardinian cuisine. La Ciccia is a tribute to Sardinia and is an experience not to be missed..

If you're interested in Mexican food, I recommend Pancho Villa, a block from the 16th & Mission BART station. Incredibly good, inexpensive, and a genuine California dining experience.

We eat at mostly little neighborhood restaurants in the Haight area

Kezar Pizzetta- great pizza with fresh cheese and herbs they grow themselves; best wings in the city with a sauce they make themselves and good salads as well.
Brioche Cafe - tartines, sandwiches, steak frites and all kinds of breakfast items.
Manitas Cafe- best mole Ive ever had.

do you like it more than cancun? Granted I first went to pancho villa in the 90s while Ive only started eating at Cancun around 2016. I was last at pancho villa in 2022 and it still was delicious.

After 39 years away and having made dozens of trips back over the years, I have learned that the only thing I cannot get better outside of the Bay Area, is good San Francisco sourdough. The climate is unique, the style adjusted for that climate, and the product is simply my favorite sourdough worldwide (although Denmark is in serious contention).
