Burning Man

We are interested in possibly attending Burning Man this year, in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. Posting here because the event originated in San Francisco and apparently still attracts thousands from SF.

I would appreciate hearing anyone's experiences with this event.
It is on my travel bucket list, and hopefully attending this year.

Thanks!

I lived in SF for 15 years and it was my favorite week of the year. All of the insufferable burners leave town!

have you bought tickets already?

it's pricey and there was some complaint that hackers bought all the tickets for resale.

Seriously, though, I have a number of close friends who go every year, and they absolutely love it. As squeakr mentions, tickets are complicated to get, and demand is much higher than supply. There are also good times to arrive and bad times (you might spend a day in line trying to get in or out). You also need to be very well prepared to support yourself for several days in the harsh environment. I think there are a few good online resources about the best way to approach this - I don't go so I'm not familiar with the best, but I'd recommend a simple Google search to get started.

I do know that your car will be an absolute mess when you are done. This was from my local car wash when I lived in SF:

Most rental car companies will charge you a couple hundred extra dollars if you take the car to burnng man. fYI.

The burning man message boards are the place to be for these questions.
