I've done a search on these programs, but still can't see the various differences in the two programs.
Invitations have arrived for both from Delta SkyMiles. Would you recommend one over the other? Or both?
Thanks for any reply.

Before joining either through an invite from an airline, please read up on e-rewards in this recent FT thread.
Also, on freefrequentflyermiles.com, click on "Other Programs I Like" and then click on "Surveys."
In short, if you join e-rewards via an Delta's invitation, you likely will find the list of available awards restricted. So choose carefully which invitation you accept.
Until recently, at the e-rewards web sit eyou could request an invitation from a sponsor and some of them, e.g. Borders, would not restrict the rewards available to you. At present, however, the site says they are not accepting requests for invitations. I like having multiple options available, but I'm sure for some people, one being limited to one airline is no problem. Plus there's all the other stuff on e-rewards. Recently, 10% off coupons from Sony were quite useful to me, for example.
The thing about e-miles is that once you select an airline from which to earn miles you cannot change it unless you get an invitation from another sponsor and cancel your existing membership, sacrificing any miles not yet deposited in your account, according to the FAQ.
In both cases, the rate at which you earn from doing surveys varies widely from person to person and from time to time. E-rewards, for example, goes weeks or months without offering me any earning opportunities, then sends me such a flurry that I earn $100 of currency in a matter of weeks.
I'd join both, or would if e-miles offered miles that were useful to me.

You may not have a choice -
e-rewards is currently shut down for new members, even if you have gotten an invitation. odd, but true as of this AM.
the number of surveys you get depends on the profile you submit - the more categories in which you show an interest, the more surveys you get.
e-miles is a little confusing in that there are offers out there all the time - but you have had to go there to see them; they are not always emailed to you. they are changing some aspects of this site to make it more appealing.
and, as I said, e-rewards is shut down so for right now - emiles is your only option.

I seem to recall some threads here about joining e-rewards via a referral from e-miles, saying that it resulted in restrictions on what you could get from e-rewards. You might want to dig that up in case you get such an invitation after joining e-miles.

Its if you join through 2 airlines referrals (Delta and someone else), you may be restricted to their programs only.

I'd go with e-rewards if you want to focus on just one. There's a variety of rewards to choose and you're not locked into 1 type like emiles. Still keep an e-miles accout since it's easy to earn and eventually you'll have enough for a miles redemption, but that wouldn't be a good source for the most miles.

I also participate with both. I joined EM in their infancy, when NW was the only airline available to me for earning miles. I'm able to get 500-1000 miles per year which means I don't have to worry about not losing miles in my NW account. Not a big perk, but makes life just a little easier!
