BlueNile

I'm getting engaged and was thinking of buying the diamond through blueNile. Anyone else out there buy a diamond there?
I was hoping to buy through one of the airline malls to double my point potential (to pay for Honeymoon in Hawaii) any suggestions?

Blue Nile is a great place to buy diamonds online. High quality and Great Prices. Airline Malls are inflated to say the least.

I bought my wife's engagement ring from them back in 1999, and we bought my wedding band from them in 2000.

I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience.

I chose a loose diamond and had then put it in a setting of my choice. As soon as it arrived, I took it to a local, highly reputable jeweler and had it appraised. Without telling him where I bought it, he said it was actually a little larger than they claimed and that the color, cut and clarity matched their claim exactly.

Interestingly, a thread popped up on AA regarding this exact subject.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=761761

looks to me like an amazing deal, specific to AA:

I plan on spending about $10,000 at bluenile.com using the eShopping website. This would give me 74,000 miles:

3 miles/dollar base at bluenile.com
3 miles/dollar bonus until Dec. 31
1 miles/dollar Citibank Mastercard
4000 bonus miles if spending $1000
You can also see my own comments about bluenile in that post. Ultimately, go for it but plan early. You may not like the one you buy, and wish to return it an try another one.

100 of 500 order

I just found this e-mail sent to my inbox. So consider this offer too.

For a limited time, you can also save $100 on your diamond order over $500.* Simply place your order before 3 PM ET on December 11 and enter DIAMOND47 in the Reference Code box at checkout.

Don't forget you can buy gift certificates for Blu Nile through giftcertificates.com and earn miles and then use those to make a purchase that earns miles as well. Make sure you are aware of the fee's . Usually not worth it for small $ purchases but for large amounts it could be beneficial.

Go to diamondtalk.com for much more extensive information on this subject. Just like the name implies, it's like flyertalk, but entirely about diamonds. Blue Nile is a reputable seller, but there are many other options out there that you might want to consider, especially because you and she will (hopefully) be stuck with the diamond for a long time.

Warning...in order to qualify for the double miles bonus, you have to use a Mastercard. I suppose you can use a Mastercard to buy the gift certificate but there are typically limits on those whereas BlueNile has no such limit.

According to the terms and conditions, this will make you ineligible for miles, at least through AA eShopping.

I'm the guy that started that thread over in the AA forum. I've been thinking about this for weeks and I'm within a day or two of making the purchase.
