have you ever done a balance transfer for miles?

I think most promotions-points or miles-exclude balance transfers.

Yes, but they're very rare, especially on a card you already have (a few cards regularly offer mileage on transfers when you first get a card like Juniper's cards for US Airways and Midwest and the Chase Southwest Visa card).

On every card with every bank I have had, you don't get mileage for balance transfers, cash advances, or use of "courtesy checks". If you find one that gives you a FREE balance transfer with miles, take it.

If anyone ever hears of a mileage transfer offered for American miles on a given card, I'd sure like to hear about it!

That's a steep demand. Even without miles, most banks charge a balance transfer fee (Capital One does not).
