So do people think this will be good or bad for us.
People on FT are often leery of changes in their programs because it often leads to devaluation, etc. However I recall many people here being a little jittery about MyPoints because they were owned by United which was in bankruptcy.
I wonder if there will be any changes--good or bad.

Remains to be seen, as always, I guess. Probably no immediate changes. Later we might see changes in rewards and such, particularly anything related directly to UAL.
The thing to watch of course will be if they try to devalue the points too much (from a redemption standpoint) or raise the price of the points (which achieves the same thing because chances to earn will go away or at least result in fewer points). But this would be counterproductive, I would think. The entity already makes profit. If they try to squeeze it too much, people will quit dealing with the hassle. So I wouldn't expect changes to be major.

what to do w my 11000 points?
Should I go ahead and redeem them?
I like cash, or some gift cards I can exchange...i.e. cards people are interested in
what is the best use for my 11000 points I have accumulated forever?
gift cards? which one is good value? bcos some cost more points than others

No wonder we are having problems in getting our points to post. The old company owners do not want to spring for buying the points, miles and cards, waiting to pass that obligation on to the new owners. If they delay replying to our emails for a period of time, they pocket more in the sale.
And who in their right mind pays $56 Million in cash for a company that only earned $2.4 million last year.

No one can tell you the best use of your points. Choose what you're most interested in.

I have 2700 now, but 1000 of those are still pending from my last Office Depot order.
Actually, looking at the list now, the best point to dollar ratio is Bloomingdale's, at 5750 for a $50 card (equaling just 11500 for $100). There are a couple others at 6000 for $50 or 12000 for $100. And they go up from there. (This is not counting the UA $75 certificate, which carries restrictions.) Webcertificate is closest to cash equivalent, can be used as a MasterCard for anything you wish to buy online. But it's 7000 points for $50.

So if you like these companies I guess it will probably be good and if you don't then it will probably be bad.
Last month they acquired Opobox for $10 million in cash

Acquisition of Namesdatabase.com Expands Company's Classmates Online Social Networking Unit
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., March 20, 2006 -- United Online, Inc. (Nasdaq:UNTD), a leading provider of consumer Internet subscription services, announced today that its social networking subsidiary, Classmates Online, Inc., has acquired Opobox, Inc., which operates The Names Database at www.namesdatabase.com, for approximately $10 million in cash.
It really can't get too much worse than the redemption of Hilton Points lately can it?

Yeah--I am getting inundated. I signed up myself, my two daughters, my mother-in-law ... of course all these people have a life so I and up getting all of the mypoints email (times five) in my inbox. I click on all the 5 point offers. My wife's actually goes to her email address. She already got a Starbucks card--that worries me--it means she bought into one of their offers!
I'll be glad when the UAL miles post so I can cut them off--the things we do for miles.
