Miles for Postage Stamps
If you don't already know, Safeway offers miles for purchaes. In DFW, a person can sign up for AA miles @ Tom Thumb. In Houston, I get CO miles @ Randall's. When my purchases over multiple purchases total $250, I get 125 miles. This is on top of miles on earn on my credit card and Upromise. Advance enrollment is required.
What you may not know is that purchases of postage stamps count towards earning miles. Something to keep in mind when getting stamps for holiday cards soon.

Same works at Costco, they sell stamps on the roll, and you can pay there with any mileage/point earning Amex (many people think that Costco only takes the Costco Amex)...
Excellent tip!

I know if you've got money leftover in an account (i.e. Bulk Mail, Prepaid Reply, etc.) with the Post Office and you close it out, you get a cash refund.
You can't cash in unused stamps, can you?

Interesting. I do know that if you have lots of small stamps, you can trade them in for larger-value stamps.
I had several rolls of 37-cent stamps and asked about cashing them in but got a vague answer that sounded like he probably could but just didn't want to. The guy did say I could trade them in, and I left with a handful of $13.85 overnight stamps.
Official policy would be good to know.

If you could, there would be hordes of FTers armed with Amex cards buying thousands of dollars worth of postage and retuning them in another post office
Maybe that's the reason for the long lines at the post office

If you own a business, you could offer your customers the service of selling stamps at face value. If you buy them at the Post Office with your DL Amex card, as stated above, you would get double miles.

Yep I agree. At work we use to have a postal meter, but now we went back to buying stamps. Of course this was my idea. We do have a DL Amex & since we spend about $100 month on postage. Means 200 miles per month for me.

I was trying to exchange some $0.60 stamps into $0.80s when the international postage went up years ago. He did me a favor anyway. I guess it depends on their willingness to bend the rules for you, or not.
