what is the real value of these certificates. these require a hefty minimum purchase!

With 2 people for a meal - you can get $35 worth of food for $10 + the cost of the certificate (with these discounts usually $3-5 for the cert itself). Works as a nice discount if you like the restaurant anyways.

I keep "hearing" from reliable friends that places aren't accepting these. Anyone had an issue?

I've used these numerous times without any issues at all. I've even had restaurants accept these for take away and alcohol when the certificate states (sometimes, not all the time) that it isn't. YMMV on that one of course.

I've used dozens of them all over the country and never had a problem. When a restaurant for which I'd purchased a certificate dropped out of the program, I got an email notifying me of the change with instructions for having the cert. reissued for another restaurant of my choice.
