Thing is-- in my mind-- the thing about this, or any multi-level (read: pyramid) type scheme is that even if it's legit at the start, with the "first in" folks maybe even getting their ipods (which are very, very backordered in the "good" colors, BTW) as the pyramid widens, the last folks in (the vast majority) will get nothing, historically speaking.. In other words, for the first few hundred referrals they only have to give out a handful of ipods (to the folks at the first few levels of the pyramid,) but as the number of people owed ipods expands (sort of exponentially) the incentive to "fold up shop" grows just as exponentially.

I understand your concern - I joined off of someone else that referred me, so I have no clue where we are on the "pyramid" - but in the grand scheme of things, probably pretty low - however, I've read all the T/C's & the offers & with the Ancestry.com offer, it doesn't seem like there's any risk involved. But, as ScottC said earlier, buyer beware. If you decide to do this, please make sure you take into account what all the other posters have said & make your own decisions. I personally feel that it's a worthwhile risk for me - as do the other 3 people that have posted that they have signed up. Please be wise enough to make your own decision - based off of what Yevlesh2 posted, I feel even more comfortable with doing it.

Though not everyone here posted, I now have at least 5 others that have at least joined (not sure if they did a qualifying activity yet or not though). Please start using umguy's link found on page 1. Thanks to everyone who joined & did a partner activity. Hopefully it will work out for all!

I'm in(using umguys link)! Let's see what happens

bhatnasx,

I used your link and did the Ancestery.com signup.

Click on the link on umguys post (second post on the first page) and follow the steps to register - give your e-mail addy (I used a junk one, so far, haven't received any weird spam from them or any of their partners, or else Yahoo's spam filter is doing its job) & click through their survey (I clicked NO for everything) and then complete one of their partner offers, Ancestry.com being the easies & the best free offer, IMHO.

I just checked my account & wharvey & bnarayan1511's posts have made it & have been credited - thank you guys! There are a few others who signed up, but haven't completed the offer yet, so I don't quite have 5 completed offers yet, but if/when the others complete their offers, I'll let you know what happens!

I think it should work - I've got one of my roommates doing it too, so I only need 3 more people. Once those three people post, person 4, please use umguys'.

I hope it works! To those that are signing up - it's probably best to ensure you use the same e-mail address & mailing address for the offer that you used to join freeipods.com.

CAREFUL with using your roommate! The rules specifically say 1 account per household, and they do check out awards. I have an associate who got their account FROZEN for referral fraud, and all they did was refer a SR when a JR already had an account. They are 2 different people, but freeipods won't let them appeal. They just froze the account and won't respond to emails!

The service is owned by freegiftplanet.com which is known to be legitimate with VERY long waits. However, be careful with this one. They seem to be looking at reasons to cancel accounts.

I want to try and test the waters to see if this company is for real or just collecting the ad money. I did get 5 referrals and they are verifying my information. They said to check back in 2 business days for the status, which sounds fishy to me.

BTW, the EASIEST one to complete is ancestry.com if you haven't done it somewhere else already. The credit is issued automatically, and you get 2 weeks free. You can cancel it quickly, and then you get credit and no money charged.

Thanks for the warning, chicaloca453 - I've got my roommate using his parents address in another city, so it's a different address.

To anyone who is interested, please make sure you use the links in order they are posted - umguy, bnarayan1511, and wharvey's first as it's only fair to them - I've removed mine because I had enough people join (however, only 2 have completed the partner activity, so if the rest of you who signed up using my link are still reading this, please go ahead & give Ancestry.com a shot - I just cancelled my trial subscription today & it was a breeze - I'd really appreciate it if you tried it out!).

Thanks!

To avoid jumping...

I've posted the current order of people on the first post - hopefully this will avoid jumping & allow people to get their referral credits - if you've posted & you've received your credits, please let me know & I'll remove your name, just as I have removed mine.
