iDine + Coupon

What happens if you "double dip" by using both Idine and a 2-for-1 coupon like from the newspaper, Reservation Rewards or the Entertainment books?

Can you get both the discount and miles???

Yes. Just make sure you give them the coupon first when they bring the bill. Then when they bring you back a new, amended bill, pay with your credit card and you are golden. I compare the Entertainment book to the Idine list for the matches.

I go one step further. I have found restaurants that participate in the Idine program for which I also get cheap certificates from the "restaurant.com" auctions. I have found some that also participate in "Opentable.com", which by using the bonus reservation times, will easily get you free certificates after a couple of uses. Basically this is a triple dip with very little financial output. The restaurant.com coupons are treated as cash and do not affect your Idine points.

I have been unsuccessful in combining a restaurant.com cert with IDINE. The cert went through, but iDINE didn't, even after I mailed in the receipt. Perhaps on some restaurant's receipts thtey can tell when a coupon has been applied.

at another restaurant, I was able to use a $$$ off coupon from the restaurant's own website, and get IDINE mileage.

I too have triple dipped with one restaurant. Reservation made via Open Table, used Entertainment coupon, then paid with I-Dine credit card. This particular restaurant was pricey, but every little bit helps.

What reason did Idine give for the lack of credit?

I've never tried a certificate with an idine visit. However, perhaps it makes a difference as to whether the place reduces the bill by hand or whether they have a supermarket-style mechanism for deducting coupons? I could see the latter flagging Idine not to credit the charge.

I also have been successful using the present coupon, then pay in a separate transaction method.

Try it - you'll like it!

Cool: I like the Open Table combo idea!

1) Reserve table with Open Table for bonus points

2) Present Discount Coupon for 2-4-1 or other deals

3) Pay with I-dine, FF Miles Card for 11 miles/dollar left on the bill.

Geez - its nearly Dine4Free!!!!

The reason is stated in the iDine program guidelines:

Your Dining for Miles benefits cannot be used with other dining discount programs including but not limited to coupons or discount cards. Miles will not be awarded if another discount program was used.
As previous messages indicate, enforcement of this provision is hit or miss. I've gotten credit for some coupon meals, not for others.

I asked that as I inferred that the claim may have gotten lost in the system rather than rejected. Idine has always sent out written rejection notices to me when I've dined at restaurants that had dropped from the system.
