I never noticed this one before: if you shop here through the NWA Mall, you can earn 3 mi/$ on purchases of American Airlines gift certificates. How's that for irony.

you can also get money back through Upromise or a few other portals.

It says that these Gift certificates for American Airlines cannot be used for travel booked online. Has anyone ever tried holding a reservation booked online and then calling in with the GC to earn the online booking bonus as well.

The page says they can't be applied to ticket purchases online. Don't see any reason why you couldn't make the reservation online, then call in to purchase it.

I have done this; held a reservation online then gone to the airport to pay with the certificates.
