Terenz -- this question has already been answered in related posts, but the e-rewards folks say that as long as you are travelling within the specified period and the ticket was purchased on AA.com, you will get the bonus.

What isn't clear to me: are the e-rewards dollars deducted when you register, even if you don't book a flight and get the miles? I might have the opportunity to book an AA flight on short notice, and it would be nice to know that this bonus was provided for if the trip happens, but I don't want the $ to go to waste if it doesn't happen.
