I was just visited by a fellow kind-hearted IGoUGo journalist who chose to be anonymous despite having gone through almost all my journals and inputting fabulous stars on all of them. To this great person, as well as MarkR37, God bless and thank you so much. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I did it! I read and rated all the journals for the following people (and sent a IGUG message after). I have marked all below as favorite guides, so I can check periodically for new journals and in my message I always tried to remember to let everyone know I would gladly read any new entries and journals, just to let me know when they are added. If I don't have you on my list, and you want to trade journal readings, let me know. I am lisamcgu on both sites.

I'll give some people time to get my message and read my journals, as I just finished some today, then I will post who has responded or not, so we know who is serious about helping each other. So far its been positive and I have been spacing people out so I can see when my journal has been read. I'll post later with the final results.

Just wishing to bring this thread to the top again, and also to thank Cat333 for dropping by and helping to raise some of my poor ratings. I was recently visited by the downgrader troll, so any help at all is absolutely welcomed! Anyhow, 5-stars or 1-star, just keep the points rolling in! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Grateful also to lyss710 and mary525 who have been very pro-active and helpful!

Don't know about you guys, but I have not been able to get to the site all morning. Any similar experiences out there? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

cat333 Aug 4, 2001 1:37 pm

I have been in and out of the site with no problem all day -- hope your problems with the site have cleared up!

Sorry for the new topic everyone - I must have hit the wrong button, but just in case you missed it I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who have so graciously read and rated all my journals. I am trying to get through everyone listed here on flyertalk and will be sure to send you a message on IGUG when I do. Thanks again!

IGO updated their program -- or whatever -- and DID IT AGAIN!! wiped out journals, deleted redemptions, deleted recent accounts totally, deleted recent referals, inculding the points for them!!!

Not sure it is worth it!

lyss710 Aug 6, 2001 5:41 pm

People on the board mentioned that journals had been lost, but I didn't expect it to happen again. Anyone who was around the first time this happened - I assume if you send them an e-mail (I did) they will credit your account for the deleted points? If not, I don't think I want be an active member of the site. I put a lot of work into the journals, and to have the journals disappear is one thing - I can recreate those. However, to have all the points gone is something different. I had several referral points which were a pain in the butt to get to start with (they had to manually award me some of the points because the e-mail link wasn't working) and I lost all those points as well. Anyway, not much to say other than I am now quite disappointed with a site I have been extremely happy with up to this point.

I cannot access the site even till now... how did you guys get in and even find out about the disaster?

cat333 Aug 6, 2001 6:38 pm

Maple, they 'let us in' around 5PM eastern time for a couple of hours. And many points and journals were missing.

JUST got back on (8:50 PM eastern) and all seems to be back again!! Interesting! I'm just glad to see my points back -- greedy me http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.

I agree with Lyss710... if it happens for the second time, I will stop being an active journalist. I have a trip to Asia (and Singapore!) coming up next week and plan to have a huge journal, but if this doesn't pull through in our favour, I am calling it a day.

Cat333: I think you caught them in the midst of spring cleaning! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Well, my faith has been restored - to a point. Just logged in again (9:45 PM EST) and everything seems to be okay - the journals are back, points have been restored, etc. (The first time I checked was about 7:00 PM EST.) I am willing to put this behind me and forgive IGUG this time, provided it doesn't happen again in the near future. I must say that it seems to me they would be wiser to leave the server down for a longer time than restore the server with missing info.

aussiemate Aug 7, 2001 7:02 am

Hi, Guys,

I had trouble logging in for two hours today, too, and when I got in, I was missing 28,000 points. I couldn't access any of my journals. I was very worried, but I got in a few hours later and all of my points and journals were there. I've really been enjoying reading all of your journals. I've read most of the ones by the following guides:
Lisamcgu
cat333
dglawless
DrMaximus
lyss710
MarkR37
Mary 525
I'm listed as aussiemate in both forums and would be happy to read any other journals if you send me an email. The IGUG people have been really helpful when I haven't gotten points for referrals who sign up.

Well, there is more "server upgrades" going on this morning (10:00 AM EST, although it is now 10:40 and the maintenance is still going on). We'll see what happens this time. I am less than impressed by the lack of notice IGUG gives regarding system downtime and maintenance. Hopefully this trend does not continue.
