Poll - Miles for Internet Access
Greetings fellow mileage addicts!
I am a frequent visitor to this site and thought I'd turn to ya'll for a little poll...
I work for an ISP that serves Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. In this competitive environment, we're always on the lookout for creative ways to increase sales.
I've suggested to the management staff that we offer miles for new/existing subscribers. They think I've lost my mind.
To build my arguement, I wanted to ask 3 questions of the FlyerTalk community:
1. If you're in WY, ID or MT, would you change from your current ISP if you could earn miles?
2. Does anybody know of any ISP's that offer miles for Internet service (dial up, DSL, ISDN, T1, web hosting, etc.)
3. At $19.95/month for basic service, how many miles would it take to tempt you to switch?
I'm excited to hear from you all! Thanks in advance for your responses - may you all make the world a better place by helping to add one more mileage earning opportunity - cause there just cannot enough.

$19.95 a month for unlimited DSL? Since I currently pay $39/mo here in the Seattle area, I would not need any other incentive to change at that proce! Of course, MT/WY is a different market.
If your company decides to offer miles for internet service, I will add a listing at Mileage Workshop with the other internet/telecom companies that currently offer miles.

On this board?
I'd thought the $19.95/month was for "basic service"
How 'bout a 500 mile bonus to sign up and 100 miles/month?
Twice that, 1000/200mi, for DSL!
Don't want to be too greedy!
Best of luck to you!

I use this when I am traveling as I have Bellsouth DSL at home and they are only in the south (where I normally do not travel) and the AT&T service is nation wide.

Also - I was aware of the earthlink deal - as a matter of fact I still keep an earthlink account b/c I'm attached to an email address I've had with them for years. (My justification, of course, was that I would be earning miles too.)
I was not aware of the MSN program. That appears to be a pretty strong program.
The AOL Advantage program is out there too, which is an interesting twist if you're looking at it from the business side, rather than the frequent flyer side.
If we decide to do anything, I will be sure to let you know so that we can get listed on the Mileage Workshop site! (Which I use regularly)

I am not in your service area, IMO, I use bellsouth and pay $15.95 month. You would have to give enough miles to warrant me increasing my bill $4.00 . I would more than likely switch for an upfront bonus of 1000 miles and monthly atleast 300. You have to think logically. I can go buy kelloggs cereal with race for the cure, pay $10.00 and the price of the cereal and get 1000 miles. So for a total of about $20.00 I am getting 1,000 miles and 5 boxes of cereal.

1. Thanks for your thoughts! I appreciate knowing what other providers are charging for their service.
2. We're competitively priced for our market - and we offer a $12.95 limited plan that provides 20 hours of internet service and .50 cents for each additional hour. So folks have the option to choose their plan. (Although as much as I visit FlyerTalk and other mileage sites, I would find it hard to imagine that anyone would want to be limited to 20 hours a month of Internet access.)
3. Personally, I've got so much cereal in my pantry that I can't buy more until I build an addition to my home.
Actually, I agree that in order for it to be a good promotion, we'd need to offer a reasonable amount of miles. I'm sure we're not going to come up with the next biggest promotion in the history of frequent flier programs - but at least we can come up with another program that allows people to earn additional miles that they might not otherwise earn.
Would it be safe to assume then that you would pay an additional $4.00/month for internet service if you could earn 1000 miles?
Thanks again for your feedback!
