A Mypoints Come Back?

What is it with MyPoints? They really seem to be on the ball as of late. The loss of the Daily Tour is disappointing but for the last few weeks I have received at least one and sometimes two BonusMail ops EVERY day! Also, I just cashed in for a $50 B&N GC and received it four days later! The first one I claimed took over a month. I am not complaining just curious as to their apparent resurgence. Have they secured some additional financing recently?

Last week my husband received 10 bonus emails. We have the same interests checked but I only receive 1-2 a week.

The mypoints company was sold recently to a subsidiary of UAL as described in the attached press release. I have noticed a significant increase in emails recently as well. I attribute it to the sale and an infusion of cash from the new parent.

CHICAGO and SAN FRANCISCO, June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- United NewVentures, a wholly owned subsidiary of UAL Corporation (NYSE: UAL - news) responsible for United Airlines' Internet initiatives and investments, and MyPoints.com (Nasdaq: MYPT - news), today announced they have signed a merger agreement. MyPoints.com is a leading Internet direct marketing and membership services company, known for its database-driven loyalty infrastructure. Under the terms of the merger agreement approved by MyPoints.com's Board of Directors, a subsidiary of United NewVentures will commence a cash tender offer to purchase all outstanding shares of common stock of MyPoints.com for $2.60 per share. The transaction is subject to customary conditions, including the valid tender of at least a majority of MyPoints.com's outstanding shares on a fully diluted basis. Following completion of the tender offer, any shares not purchased in the tender offer will be acquired for the same price in cash in a second-step merger.

MyPoints being an old, reliable (ish) site means they probably are getting a better share of the business now. With all the sites that have been going under, it may be that MyPoints is one of the few sites of its type that advertisers would be prepared to do business with now. ... And the report that they are being bought by UA should have given their partners even more confidence that if they place ads with MyPoints, it'll still be around next week.

Though it may sound cynical, the 'resurgence by MyPoints is really a net-sum-gain. True, they provide two BonusMail's a day now but by taking away the DailyTour they cancel out. The DailyTour was 10 points. The old BonusMail was 10-20 points each but are now only 5 points each. 5(2)=10-10 (DailyTour)=0! Oh well...
