I have just signed up for a french miles program called maximiles.

It seems pretty easy to earn miles here but it does test my french language skills a bit.

In terms of 'cadeaux' (rewards) can one redeem maximiles for frequent flyer miles on any program? Failing that are there any travel awards that you think might interest someone who does not live in Europe?

I did not know, but just had a look at the site for you.
No, they do not give you the possibility to transfer your point sinto miles, you can get tickets for flight between paris and london, amsterdam, san francisco, los angeles, etc... They just say the flight is on a big company (it is not a charter), and you must book with them.
I do not think the points are easy to earn: 5 miles one time per month to give your opinion on a restauarnt, 10 miles if the restaurant is added to their list after your recomandation, and you get points to receive mails and give answers, as well as for surveys. You get 100 miles for referring, 10 people maximum.
So, basically, except if you by you railway tickects (SNCF) through them, you will referr, read e-mails and gain 2500 miles, that entiltle you to receive one of these french magazine once per months for 12 months at you french adress.
