Just a heads up that Fatwallet is ending its run very soon.

From a recent post by Tim Storm on Facebook (Wed 9/20 10:36 am):
I heard the news today... oh boy.
When I sold FatWallet in 2011, I told myself that I sold the right to complain about whatever happened after that.
Im immensely proud of what we built - and sad to hear that it will be shutting down very very soon.
Ive not been involved at all in the last 6 years, but my heart is with everyone that played a part, either with me, or after me.
It was a hell of a ride.

Ebates is the company that bought FatWallet several years back.
The difference between ebates and FatWallet, of course, is that FatWallet has discussion boards, which have continued operating. But now, even those are shutting down, apparently. It is the discussion boards that people are upset about losing.
ETA: Ebates bought FatWallet in 2011. For some years after that, FatWallet continued offering cashback on purchases through numerous merchants, just as ebates does. At some point, FW stopped the cashback, but continued offering "deals" (discounted prices, sales, etc.). And all along, FW's discussion forums continued: https://www.fatwallet.com/forums
Now the whole of FW will be shutting down.
Alas, this is the last weekend for FW, as it will go dark on Monday, October 9, 2017.
Actually found about FatWallet from someone here on FT.
Have checked the site almost daily for well over a decade.
It will be missed.

https://slickdeals.net/forums/ will take you direct to the forum landing page. They also have a pretty decent mobile app.
eBates bought FatWallet a while ago, but eBates itself is owned by Japanese marketing conglomerate Rakuten (the ones who came to US by buying buy.com), so blame them...
Myself, I've just opened an account on Slickdeals (people weren't allowed to mention them on FatWallet by name...) to keep reading and commenting on the marketplace.

I already noted above that ebates bought FatWallet in 2011 (not just "a while ago", but rather, 6 - 7 years ago). Ebates was started all the way back in 1998, its website was launched in 1999, and it was an independent company until Rakuten purchased it in late 2014.Originally Posted by viajero boricua

So, ebates' purchase of FatWallet took place first, ~3 years before Rakuten purchased ebates. Not sure why you would blame Rakuten, unless you think that ebates would have kept FatWallet going indefinitely rather than shutting them down.
