Ebates is the company that bought FatWallet several years back.
The difference between ebates and FatWallet, of course, is that FatWallet has discussion boards, which have continued operating. But now, even those are shutting down, apparently. It is the discussion boards that people are upset about losing.
ETA: Ebates bought FatWallet in 2011. For some years after that, FatWallet continued offering cashback on purchases through numerous merchants, just as ebates does. At some point, FW stopped the cashback, but continued offering "deals" (discounted prices, sales, etc.). And all along, FW's discussion forums continued:
