Lightbulb New grid for free rewards for spare computing.

I have been doing the World Community Grid for years to cure diseases with spare computer time and in a search came across a new one with rewards that is launching in 2012. You can reserve a slot now online, just more miles and cards for free. I run 4 pc's on the WCG now so it is brainless to do!
Not a conga and no referral payments..... Just Sharing info..

CPUsage offers computer owners the opportunity to earn rewards with their idle computers. The way it works is simple: when your computer is on but unused, CPUsage will send small computational tasks, paying you for that time it takes to complete. Whether you are in individual or an organization, partnering with CPUsage is an easy way to earn valuable rewards.

Computer owners are rewarded through a point system that accounts for compute time and computer performance. These points can be redeemed for cash, goods or services such as gift cards and digital video rentals. You can even save your points for a large reward like a new computer or airline tickets. The more compute power you have, the more points youll earn

Cheers!

In hibernate mode the computer does not work. Must be on, the display and some other peripherals that are not used can be turned off by power management.

Did anyone else who attempted to sign up for this ever actually get an invite. I signed up after seeing this message last year, and never received an invite... Just wondering if anyone here actually did.

I signed up for an invitation. Back in January, I got an email stating:

Future CPUsage Partner,

First, thank you for your interest and support for what we are doing! We have been flooded with invite requests, customer inquiries, emails and phone calls. We are working through all of these things, but your excitement was even greater than expected.

The big question we've been getting from many of you has been "where is my invite code?" The answer: It's coming, but they are not ready yet.

After completing a successful alpha program with the first iteration of our technology, we began working on the next phase. Today, we are hard at work engineering an upgrade to our grid that is more powerful, scalable and secure. This means that it will be a few more weeks before we can begin adding computers to the grid. We'll start with US based users which means all others will have to wait a bit longer.

In the meantime, we hope you'll continue to follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Leading up to the launch, we'll communicate with you via email occasionally but won't bug you too often. If you'd rather not hear from us via email, click the unsubscribe button below.

Seems like a good idea, but I can definitely see where they might get flooded with people interested

I have been volunteering CPU cycles for distributed computing projects for about 15 years. You should be careful about what projects you allow your computer to download and crunch. There have been many disreputable or profiteering ventures disguised as altruistic projects. I have a general rule that if the project is not hosted on a .edu domain, I won't participate.

Definitely a good amount of computing power laying around these days. So wouldn't be surprised if the big users with a lot of installs get first dibs since easier to deal with a few clients as opposed to many
