MyPoints redemption increase

It was bound to happen. When I cashed in points for a $10 restaurant gift card, the points needed had jumped from 1400 to 1500. Since this is the only category I redeem for, I don't know if the points required for other items have gone up or not; but probably they have.

United has changed at the lower level. Now 5100 mypoints for 2500 airmiles. THe next level is unchanged. Unfortunately, I found out last night when I went in with my 5017 points and found out I was short.

thanks for the heads up; I'm getting close myself for another 2500 UA. 100 is not a huge amount but enough to be a royal PITA especially if you don't know..otoh.. these are completely free for me as I've never bought anything off the site.. its all for opening links at 5 pts a pop; or those stupid survey points

You can usually buy restaurant.com certificates for 70-80% off. As a result a $25 certificate that theoretically costs $10 can usually be bought for $2. That's means you are spending 750 points for $1 worth of redemption.

If I cash in 5000 (or 5100) points for 2500 UA miles, I figure those UA miles are worth at least $40-50 (1/10 of a domestic ticket). That's only 100 points per $1, or about 7 times as much.

Is there really nothing else you can find on MyPoints that would give you a better return?

I think it's a to each their own on any perceived return, and appreciate the OP giving a heads up re: potential increases in category/points.

Cheers.

I've had those certs from time to time, and they're rarely available for restaurants that are convenient or I frequent. Plus giving them to people I know who can use free meals doesn't give them a free meal. So they have no value to me. Whatever I choose to use my points for, they're free; and I get what I want. Obviously, it's not what you want, and that's OK.

I am not sure what the point of a 100 point increase for 2500 UA miles is. Do you think United is charging them more? Perhaps they want to encourage us to redeem at the 5000 point level.

some people reedemm for amazon gift codes, then resell those on ebay for near face value, with fees i'm guessing you can get 75-85% back out as cash
