miss most?

My fiance is on his way to Russia for two years and I need ideas to surprise him with things he may miss from home. Any recommendations of items that we have in the US that they don't over in Russia that is package shipped friendly?

I think you'll have to be a little more specific about what he likes or enjoys most here, and then we can tell you if they have it over there. You can find most things there that you can find here, if you know where to look. The things I miss the most when I'm over there are the intangibles, or things that are just too hard to quantify. I miss having more than 6 channels on the TV when I have down time in the flat, I miss interacting with service industry people who know how to smile.

The thing he will miss most will be YOU.... If he will have internet access, buy him the "magicJack". Program it here in the USA and then he can call to you anywhere in the USA for free.... even your cellphone. You can also call him for free, as long as his magicJack is plugged in and on.

I don't have stock in magicJack but I use it all the time to call friends and relatives.

Skype costs nothing to buy and only costs 2 cents/min.

Skype is computer to computer.

magicJack is any computer you plug it into in Russia to any telephone in the US, Canada or Mexico, including cell phones.

2 cents per minute is a great rate, but $39.95 / .02 cents = 1997.5 minutes / 365 days in a year = 5 1/2 minutes a day of calling. I would suspect fiancee's would talk more. Just 30 minutes a day * .02 * 365 = $219.... every other day = $109, BUT, 30 min once a week = $31.20 which yes, Skype would save you money.

He can call his friends, bank, CC Co., or handle any problem that might come up in the US, (that can be handled by phone)... Just knowing you can call anytime for as long as you like and not have to worry about the cost is great. Peace of mind...

Sorry if I offended anyone. I merely started off by telling her, she was what he would most likely miss most and gave her an option of an excellent gift. I then only responded to a reply to my comment. There may very well be other programs out there as I'm certaintly no expert on free calls from Russia. $39.95 a year works for me.
