Riga to Sochi

I will be traveling to Riga for two weeks in June and would like to go to Sochi (AER) for four days. What is the most affordable way of travelling to Sochi? Flights look expensive and the train requires a lot of time and visa hassle. Thank you very much!

Not quite sure what you mean by "train requires a lot of [..] visa hassle", as you will need a Russian visa regardless of the mode of entry (assuming you are a US citizen).

As for the flights, you will likely need to fly to Moscow first and then connect to a flight going to AER. Also, how did you check pricing for those flights? If you are referring to fares found via a general travel site/GDS, they are often outrageous and should not be relied upon. To get more "real" pricing, try contacting Aeroflot's representation in the US. You are also likely to find much cheaper fares via a travel agent while in Riga.

Latvian Travel Agent

Great! Thank you. I had been checking traditional travel web sites, so I will now check with Aeroflot (USA) and I already have a lead on a travel agent in Riga (brother's girlfriend speaks Russian). Do you have any favorite online travel agents in the area?

Sorry, I don't know of any good travel agencies in the area that have websities in English. Also, the "online" part is kind of a moot point as all tickets have to be paper (i.e. e-ticketing is not generally possible). To get good fares, your best bet really is to use a Russian-speaker to help you.

By the way, Sochi is a great place -- it's the official vacation spot of all Russian presidents... If you need a hotel recommendation, Radisson SAS Lazurnaya is the best hotel in the city: Photo
