Transit visa for 48 hours

Hi all, I've hastily booked a trip to DME figuring the visa process was easy and decently affordable. After some research I am very confused on the process of obtaining a transit visa and the cost.

I will be in DME for 48 hours (less then the 72 that the transit visa costs) yet when I look at the prices of the visa, its the same price as tourist visa? On top of that if I go throught a visa agency i'm looking at around $250 at the cheapest and more like $300. That sounds like a very expensive 48 hours.

I am a U.S. citizen

My other option is changing my flights so that my inbound arrives at 4pm and my outbound would leave at 6am the next morning. I would not need a visa at that point if I don't leave the transit terminal. That being said, What lounges are there airside in the transit terminal. I will be flying royal Jordanian in Business class on a AA explorer award continuing to DUS. Would I have access to the BA lounge or DME's "business lounge" where it says business and first class PAX on airlines contracted with DME has acccess.

Thanks!

If you ever plan on going to Russia again and you're a US citizen (you don't say), your best bet is just to apply for the three-year multi-entry visa that is now available. You could then use it for either transit or tourism any time in the next three years, and the price is only $40 more than the transit visa alone.

Formally, you cannot. I don't know why, but the visa treaty does not include the word 'transit'.

One can pretend a short visit though - nobody cares.
