Tripadvice for SU please

Never having flown SU, never trasferred at SVO and never having flown economy cabin for trips longer than 6 hours I would like some advice from you guys: I just stumbled upon a great fare AMS - SVO -NRT of Euro 430. This includes a transfer of two or 5 hours at SVO which I think will be doable (not a big fan of SVO but ok-ish I guess) and a 9hr stretch on SU in economy. Any experiences? Will I be broken on arrival? Any thought on comfort, service and what to expect regarding fellow passengers? Any info welcome. Thanks!

Two hours at SVO is sufficient. Five hours [at any airport] would try my patience.

Y on SU is fine. If on an A330 SVO-NRT, seat comfort is normal (not cramped), and food is edible. My sense is also that, in light of the state of the Russian economy, SU loads are down, meaning that you may have a good chance of being able to spread out. The AMS-SVO segment should similarly be fine--no less comfortable than KL, IMHO.

My sense is that the SU routes to Asia end up with a lot of bargain-hunting students transiting to/from Europe at certain times of year.

To echo chalf's thoughts, two hours in SVO is sufficient. I would recommend finding a way to get into business class if possible--I have found both the service and the food to be as good/better than comparable western carriers. You may also find that business is more affordable than it has been previously--SU keys to the Euro rather than the Ruble, if I am not mistaken, but pax loads are going to be down (I flew the 'Flot intra Europe recently and there I was one of two people in J. Also, it was real J and not just a row of economy seats with the middle seat reserved for space).

Safe Travels,

O/H
