iDine cash back program improvements as of Jun 27 2010

Got an email last week:

We're revamping iDine with a couple of important changes to the way you'll earn your cash back benefits. Changes will go into effect on June 27, 2010.

Levels of Participation
Dine your way to bigger benefits! Soon, iDine will be a single free program that lets you increase your earning percentage as you dine over the course of the year.* The more you dine, the higher your level of earning and the greater percentage your cash back benefits will be.

Level One
Start off earning 5% back per dine.

Level Two
Move up to earning 10% back per dine once you spend $250 at program restaurants, bars or clubs. (You can reach 10% and continue to earn it until the end of your anniversary month.)

Level Three
Reach the top! Earn 15% back per dine once you spend another $500 on the program. And that 15% will last for the rest of your membership year (until the end of your anniversary month)!

How You'll Receive Your Benefits
You know how you have to dine a subsequent time to earn each cash back benefit? That's going to be a thing of the past.** Just dine, and half your benefit will be added to your ongoing benefit total. Then fill out your online survey within 30 days, and the other half of your benefit will be added. Once your benefits total at least $20, we'll mail you a check for the total amount you've earned.* That's how you'll receive your earned benefits, whichever card you use—American Express, Discover, Visa or MasterCard. (So it's more important than ever to have your current mailing address on file!)

What's Not Changing
The same great restaurants, bars and clubs will still serve up cash back benefits. The same Web experience will still be at your service. And we’ll keep emailing you about participating dining spots in your area and opportunities to earn more.

Keep an eye out for the new iDine, starting June 27. And if you have questions, please call member services at (877) 491-3463. Thanks for being a member!

*Moving up from one benefit level to the next is based on the amount you spend on the program. When you reach levels two and three, the benefit levels will be available through the end of the month of the anniversary date of your joining. Benefit checks will be mailed within a month of earning at least $20 in benefits and can include any additional benefits that you earn before the check issuance. Benefits under $20 will expire if you do not dine on the program for one full year.

**All dining activity prior to 6/27/10 will follow the same rule as the current iDine program, where a second dine is required within 60 days. If a second dine does occur within 60 days, the benefit will be added to your ongoing benefit total.

It seems from your post that this is only about the cashback program, and doesn't affect the mileage dining programs, which is what most (almost all?) people on this forum use.

Are there big changes in the offing to the mileage programs as well?

Just wanted to confirm that these changes affect only the iDine cash back dining program, not other Rewards Network mileage, points, and loyalty programs. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for confirming this, Elizabeth.

The thread has been retitled for specificity.

Does the cash back program ever have promos?

For anyone who uses the cashback program, how do you like it?

Are there ever promos like there are for the airline and hotel programs?

Im really disappointed that they've chosen to change from CHECKS to pre-loaded AMERICAN EXPRESS cards.

We were better off with the statement credits.

Who knows, it will probably change again in 3 months.
