One Way Northeast to Florida?

Hello:

Pre-pandemic rental car companies would offer great one-way car rental deals to transport their vehicles to Florida in the fall.

Looking around the internet it looks like this is no longer the case.

Best I see is $80 a day.

Am I missing anything?

TIA

You are not missing anything. Due to Covid-induced supply chain constraints, there are far fewer of these deals available, and where they are available, they are much more expensive than in the past.

That said, we've been very successful in applying coupons and discount codes to get the rates down, so you might want to request a quote (or a few) and see what comes back.

Avis/Budget was recently advertising it, and sometimes Hertz was quietly matching. Look again.

You can also check newcomer Kyte. They cover Boston, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Hoboken, Jersey City, and Washington DC. Their only FL service area is in Miami, however.

Update:

I followed the suggestions. Thanks. I did pretty good using by USAA discount with Avis, but CARRENTALSAVERS was a close second.

Many thanks

Glad you found a good deal. Don't forget to track it with AutoSlash as rates can change multiple times a day. We may be able to lower your rate before pickup.

in years past, it was possible to get 14-28 days at single-digit daily rate. What's the longest deal now?

An important safety concern - Pre-pandemic many rental agencies had lower mileage vehicles in significantly better shape for distant drives. In recent years, I've found many cars have significantly higher mileage (approaching 50k) and in deplorable condition. I urge you to check the tires, spare and quickly test the vehicle at highway speed before going too far from the pick-up facility. One vehicle I rented had defective ripped windshield wiper, poor alignment and tires so worn the metal wire was showing.

Yes, but likely not worth the price. $96/day. Avis/Budget started advertising it a while ago. Sometimes competitors are matching it.

I miss the days that it would be as low as $5 a day for National.
