Zipcar general thread

I've got a few questions. Next month I have two specific trips where I will want to utilize zipcar, which is quite unusual for me. I had an annual membership in 2012 and utilized it once lol. Never been inclined to join again until now.

1) Is it very easy to join? Like can be done in minutes? Or will I potentially hit some snags with Driver's License approval that could delay things. Just wondering if I should wait until the week of my first use or is that cutting it too close?

2) The Zipcar website offers estimated pricing "starting at" for specific vehicles at specific locations. Is this pricing usually accurate? Or might it be much more than that. Don't they cap the daily rate at a certain amount so that should be reliable?

3) Are there any referral links I should use? Does anybody have their own referral link to share?

Thanks in advance!

Been a Zipcar member for close to 9 years now. Pre Pandemic I was on the $75 a month plan with $75 a month in driving credit. Now I just pay $7 a month to keep the account open for emergencies, I haven't rented from Zipcar in a over a year.
I think the time that it takes is how long to get their card which I still think is needed for start and ending the rental. I've used the app mid-rental to lock and unlock the car and only once did it not register and unlock the ignition and I needed the card.
If you can go to a local office to apply and/or get the card or allowed to use your old card if you have might speed up the process.

They always have extra cards usually in the spare tire well if your card stops working mid rental.

For a 24 hour weekday rental in NYC I'm getting $85-$87 or $14.50/$15.50 an hour and that is without all the taxes. Highest is a CRV at $16 or $90 a day.
Sorry no current experience, just what I can look up.

Thank you for the info! I was assuming the app would work fine...didn't consider that it might be hit or miss. I'll have to check on the lead time to get a card then...I also happen to find my old one this week so we'll see if that is useful!
