Jordan bars tourists from bringing Jewish religious items
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satelli...cle%2FShowFull
Jordan has a new regulation -- as "a safety measure" -- prohibiting tourists from bringing into Jordan a tallit, tefillin, Jewish prayer books, or volumes of the Talmud or Bible.
(Needless to say, Christians can wear crosses around their necks.)
So much for ever going to see Petra...

This is really not a new issue
About a year ago the same thing arose as tours of religious Jews that I think were organized for Bar Ilan University staff were told that they couldn't bring in teffilin etc.
There was some noise at the time with the tour operator saying that the matter would be resolved and then the issue quieted down so I assumed it was resolved.
But looks like it is back in business again
