Points Value
hi all,
how do you value Goldpoints? I have nearly 50k which seem to me to have taken a long time to earn, but i'm looking at using them at a hotel in south africa that only costs $150 USD per night for 44k miles, that doesn't seem like a good value. What's the best way to redeem them?
Thanks,
Chris

I am no CC expert, but it looks to me that the best redemption values are at the low end and the high end. The mid-range ones don't look so great.
9K might get you a room worth $60-70. 50K might get you a room $300+ (NYC, Paris, etc. during a busy time)
So potentially 2/3 a cent per point. Cash and points can be good.
You can buy CC points for .7 cents each, 40K per calendar year.

I view them at a floor of about $3 / 1000 points, as that is what they are worth to me if I exchanged them for airline miles. I have booked a room that replaced a cost of about $10 per / 1000 miles. In general, I try to get at least $5 value per 1000 points before I will redeem.

Hi there! The value is 0.005 $ per point but you'd better make sure that you get at least 0.01 $ per point when you redeem your points @:-)

Actually, it was more than that, because by staying there and leaving my car there, I saved about $25 in parking fees at the airport.
So, a free night and $25 savings for 0 points.
I'll probably do it again next month and save about $35 in parking fees.
Even though next month it will cost me 9000 points.
I also like the advantage of being able to book early morning flights now at an airport that is 2 + hours away.

Points value
I value the points at about $4 per 1000 as well.
There's a Park Inn near Toronto airport; 15000 points per night. Not a spectacular place but it works for me. If that hotel ever charges more than 15000 points per night, then I'm probably leaving Carlson entirely.
