SWISS will not join oneworld (yet)
it looks like SWISS will not join oneworld (yet) per april-1-2002.
SWISS is expected to announce even closer links with AA - the oneworld project fails to realize (now) because of BA's opposition.
BA considers SWISS with 129 planes to be too strong a competitor in Europe (also regarding possible EU monopoly restrictions regarding LHR).

Rudi,
What is your news source?
Basler Zeitung interviewed CEO Andre Dos this morning.
This would seem to justify the urgency of going ahead with AA while being able to deal with the intra-European issues with somewhat less time pressure.

Dos (CEO) and the (dutch) President don't communicaate the same 'things' it seems.
The Basler Zeitung interview (can't be from today, can it, they print it before midnight, don't they?) in principle (except the Sky Team) says (make the same conclusions) the same as my news source.
(sorry- will not give my source, I learned in my Swiss military service, not to give away 'critical internal' news sources ... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif)

No this must be wrong. According to the overconfident signals put out by Swiss over the last several weeks, the different alliances were DYING to have SWISS.
It is a real shame, you would thing that the arrogance which was the downfall of SR would have worn off and that SWISS SHOULD be BEGGING the alliances to let them in rather than having acted arrogant.

Come on guys, BLICK can't be such a confidential source, can it ?
BLICK wrote in today's edition exactly what Rudi said.
Now, don't think I'm a BLICK reader, I saw the news on www.borsalino.ch with a link to the BLICK website http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Okay, you win....
But tell me something: what does that mean for us, except for the obviously smaller number of destinations ? Do you think SWISS would have linked the FF program with somebody or adapted it ? Where does that leave us now ?

* Qualiflyer will be (and stay) as the (only) SWISS ff-progrqam
* more code-shares with AA
* more fare competition (cheaper fares) Siwtzerland - LHR
* better Qualiflyer promotions for flying segments where SWISS competes with BA

The one downside for me is that I only have two inconvenient LX flight a week in the summer from my local airport (at one time we had 4 or SN and 1 on LX each day!!) so I hope for BA and EI as a way of earning and using points direclty out of EDI.

Do you think that AA flights will count as club miles for Qualiflyer? That would be really great!
