Sabena/Swissair split progressing

Sabena CEO Mueller met the Sabena unions yesterday and intimated that Swissair will not abide by its previous agreements struck with the Belgian government. This agreement consisted of Swissair fully integating all the Sabena activities in return for fresh capital and a 85% stake in Sabena.

Earlier last week, Mueller indicated to the German edition of the Financial Times that Swissair will not raise its stake to 85%. At the same time, a Sebana spokesman said that the financial management of the combined SR/SN entity is to be split again. HR and network planning are next in line to be split up. The joint marketing agreement remains, allegedly, in place although this seems in contradiction to the network planning de-coupling. Union respresentatives indicated they expect Sabena to close, or seriously cut, the flight operations.
