QR going twice daily A380 CDG-DOH

I hope this hasn't been posted before. Feel free to move otherwise.

Qatar Airways earlier this month has expanded Airbus A380 operation on Doha – Paris CDG route, which sees 2nd daily A380 rotation as QR041/042, replacing 777-300ER. QR041/042 is served by A380 from 08MAY17 to 01JUL17, except selected dates in June.

In addition, recent schedule changes also see previously planned 777-300ER service during following period, instead of A380, has been reversed: 22JUN17 – 30JUN17 (Even Days), 18SEP17 – 04OCT17 (Even Days). QR039/040 will continue to operate A380 on these specified dates.

QR041 DOH0120 – 0715CDG 388 D
QR039 DOH0730 – 1335CDG 388 D
QR037 DOH1500 – 2055CDG 359 D

QR042 CDG0910 – 1635DOH 388 D
QR040 CDG1605 – 2330DOH 388 D
QR038 CDG2225 – 0550+1DOH 359 D

I wonder which route is losing the A380 to allow a second to CDG. I'd assume Guangzhou since that seemed like an odd choice for their flagship plane. But then again I don't run an airline so maybe they have high yields on that route.

Thanks for posting.

Looks like the annual post-Ramadan change.

CAN lost their A380 in March.

There may well be a change from LHR or BKK, as additional A350's are delivered.

Odd. CAN is showing an A380 for the next few days at least...

Along with LHR (x2), CDG (x2), BKK (x2) and SYD - for 1 June schedule.

Not yet MEL (which I think has been announced, but not yet switched).

QR are still flying the A380 to CAN. QR received their 8th A380 recently which is used to increase service to CDG until they switch MEL to the A380.

msm2000uk CAN has not lost its A380 nor was it ever scheduled to do so! just for 14 days.

According to http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qatar...es-2017-a.html post 1
"Doha – Guangzhou Boeing 777-300ER to replace A380 during following period:
21JUN17 – 29JUN17 (Odd Days), 04JUL17, 17SEP17 – 03OCT17 (Odd Days)".
According to the QR booking engine and QRCargo CAN retains its A380 in spite of the scheduled changes certainly until the end of September.

I suspect that the changes were announced when delivery dates of new aircraft were somewhat uncertain. Since the aircraft are now delivered there is no need for the equipment changes. I also note that CDG loses its second A380 again 1 July the same date that the DOH-MEL route gets its A380!

There is actually high demand, especially in Y, due to large number of African immigrants in Guangzhou. Also bear in mind that Chinese business travelers and tourists in Guangdong(wealthiest province of China) as well as other provinces in the south see Guangzhou as their international airport.

I have personally taken the A380 to or from Guangzhou quite a few times in F/J- business class wasn't LHR full but Y was absolutely packed, seemed to me a fair destination to deploy their A380.

CAN must be J/F heavy too. If it was only Y heavy then a 24J/356Y 77W would do it. I don't think QR would send an A380 because of high Y and low-medium J/F demand.

Last time I took that route there was a group of 9-10 Chinese government officials seated together in J taking over rows and rows of F/K seats with 4 secretaries in Y carrying their luggage, who also ordered food for them in English. Suspiciously 8 beautiful young ladies further back in the aisle, all (~20 pax) heading to Rio post Olympic Games. I also recall seeing quite a few Arabs/ Egyptian traders onboard.

I would imagine many China funded/ aided foreign projects are empowered by Southern government owned cooperations (国企)due to geographical convenience, for example the newly built Kenyan Nairobi-Mombasa railway and Rio underground.

Could it be a LHR A380.......Qatar will no longer have the newest. J product on that aircraft and LHR has always been a prestige route so maybe more Q suite enabled 77Ws over the next few months?
