Missing Connection

Hello from Algiers!

My flight to Doha is currently delayed 2 hours and will miss the connection to HKG tomorrow at 8.35 AM. My ALG flight is in fact scheduled to land at 8.29 AM in Doha.

Checking on Flight Aware, I see a flight QR8404 to HKG at 4.00 PM however when I check seat availabiity on Expert Flyer that flight doesn't exist. Does anybody know if it is an actual flight or a ghost flight?

I see they have another at 2.25 AM on the 2nd of February too. Expert Flyer gives 5 seats availability in Business Class plus a gew "blocked" (will this be released later?), however I hope they're not all booked. I have a connection to catch in HKG!

In Algiers the Qatar people claims they "can't help", and I'll have to sort things out in Doha. Do you confirm this?

Thanks.

Are the 2 flights on 1 ticket or 2 separate tickets?
If the 2 flights are on 1 ticket its QR's problem to get you to your destination. Does need to be the fare booking class available.
If the 2 flights are on 2 tickets it all your problem. Just have your credit card read to buy a new ticket.

They are. Algiers to Fuzhou. I only have one extra flight on a separate ticket at the end of the trip but I have 12 or so hours in between so hope to make it. I was just wondering if anybody knew something about 8404 or if QR "blocks" seats to release them at check-in.

Even if you are connecting on a single ticket, it would not be odd to have your reroute handled at DOH. While your flight is currently delayed by 2 hours, that could change for the better or you could make up time in the air and land less than 2 hours late. Or your onward flight could be delayed for any number of reasons and you might still make the connection.

While this certainly looks grim, carriers routinely do not rebook until there is a misconnect.

As already noted, if you are not connecting, but have separate tickets, it will be for you to arrange onward transportation and the value of your original onward ticket will depend on its fare rules, e.g., if it is refundable, it may retain value if you no show.

Even if you are on a sinlgle ticket, it always makes sense to do the research and look at options. Simply depending on the late-delivering carrier will not likely yield you the best option. Be prepared to specifically ask for the flights you want.

I believe QR8404 is a cargo flight.

Danusa86 QR8404 is a B777F freighter so it will not show on passenger schedules.

They are what? 1 ticket or 2 separate tickets?
ALG-DOH-FOC (1 ticket)
ALG-DOH and DOH-FOC (2 separate tickets)

Danusa86 blocked seats beside an occupied seat usually means that the passenger has status and the seat beside him is kept free to give him more room. But why it is done on a 1-2-1 B787 is beyond me.
The front row is always blocked since it is there the bassinet sets are. Any vacant seats are normally released at the opening of airport check-in.

More time to "enjoy" the fabulous, clean miracle that is the so-called lounge at Algiers airport then

What an amazing lounge, what are DOH or HKG in comparison?

In the end, everything's fine. After an argument with the Qatar people in Algiers (who were claiming they couldn't touch the tickets but only Doha could), the three J passengers to HKG (including me) where re-ticketed. Me on the 2.25 AM HKG flight, the others via Jakarta

Thanks for your help and hello from the Oryx Rotana hotel.
