Alan Joyce to replace Dixon
Just been listening to 774 ABC Melb and they reported that Alan Joyce (CEO Jetstar) is going to replace Dixon as CEO.
The Age link here.

Is this the Jetstarsation of QF?
Not a surprising appointment and Joyce has been successful as the CEO of an LC carrier with a good working knowledge of QF. Dixon will stay on as a consultant till March.

I think it is a good move. Joyce obviously showed he has more potential than Borghetti or Greig.
He has also done very well in growing the QF group albeit through JQ recently.

I was hoping for someone new and from outside, with no baggage. Otherwise I thought Borghetti would have been good as he is a long time QF man that has made his way up on the inside.
As an accountant, Gregg would have got his razorgangs to work to cut out any more costs he could find, which I think would have impacted service levels even more.
It will be interesting to see what happens...

Hi all
Have I got this wrong:
How is this guy so great when you have been associated with the above airlines?
Wondering
lme ff
Have I got this wrong:
- Ansett - bankrupt?
- Aer Lingus - was almost bankrupt, stuggling to survive at one point (still?) and is now considered a low-cost carrier
- JetStar - low cost, zero frills, struggling on some of its international
How is this guy so great when you have been associated with the above airlines?
Wondering

I guess he did what was required with JQ.
have a look; tiger are pulling out of MEL/DRW and now need to recruite staff for MEL based servicing as their aircraft can't be rotated back to SIN enough ...

As for JQ - It has been very succesful in an area that has failed with all other major airlines (LCC within a Legacy). I also dont think we can hold the weak Jaapanese market against JQ - QF were struggling as are alot of other carriers with that market.

I guess I am slightly biased after some less then great experiences with JQ on the ground.
What I thought was interesting last night was that Joyce was wearing a tie. All the pics of him in the JQ magazine are him without tie looking ever so much the LCC exec.
Can someone pls tell me why LCC has to = no tie? Do the public actually buy the image that because the CEO 'can't afford a tie' means the airline is not making huge profits therefore the fares are low? I would have thought that tie = professional look = safety?
Still wondering

Ah, but - traditionally - whenever "Jetstar" and "safety" have been mentioned in the same sentence it is usually accompanied by the phrase "part of the QANTAS Group".... I guess that phrase is off-limits with the great unwashed who gleen Qantas' current status from Channel-10 news sound-bites .... hence the tie!!
