Red e-deal question

Sorry if this question has already been asked, but I couldn't find the info doing a search: what is the fare code for red e-deals? I'm trying to figure out how the new accrual rules for AAdvantage will work (or not) with these fares after 01/04. Currently, red e-deals accrue a minimum of 500 miles, and 70% of actual miles flow. After Jan. 04, will it be 500-mile min./50% of miles flown, or nothing at all? From the info on the AAdvantage web site, it appears that L, W, O, and Q fares, which still accrue mileage this year, will become ineligible next year.

I'm assuming these fares will still be eligible for accrual on FF, right?

Great, thanks for the info. Now, just out of curiosity, does anyone know what kind of fares are L, W, O, and Q?

AFAK, they are all economy with increasing levels of restrictions. ITN or seatmap.com will show the various classes available - expensive on the left and cheap on the right. The FF economy award classes of X and T are not shown except for X when there is only economy class on the flight. The fare rules (probably what you really want to know) should be visible when making a booking through the QF web site (although you will have to go partly through the booking before you get to find out the rules).

Thanks again for the additional info, og. Interesting that some kind of restricted Y fares won't be allowed to accrue AAdvantage miles next year, whereas e-deals (the most restricted, it seems to me), are still good...

Not sure about W, but O class is used for red-e-deals purchased over the phone/from an agent. Also certain deeply discounted consolidator fares are in O class (ie: I once saw a extra cheap fare from STA that booked in O class). Q seems to be used by QF for connecting sectors on foreign carrier's tix (ie: if you buy an AC ticket from MEL-YVR you'd fly QF MEL-SYD to connect to AC, and they usually book in Q or L class for those). I think Q is also used for package holiday bookings, but am not 100% on that.

Hope that helps a little.

Thanks RichardMEL, it helps a lot (or it will, once some of these fares will become ineligible for mileage accrual on AA). Now, here's another question: when you book a red e-deal on the QF website, or otherwise on the travel.com.au website, in which screen do they put the info re. fare codes? I just can't seem to find it.

All explained at this location - might want to look at the Ultimate Qantas Guide (is a sticky at the top of the Qantas forum).
