Upper Deck on QF B744

Hi all, managed to get upgraded (using miles before the new upgrade award levels set in) for QF 10 SIN-MEL sometime in Dec. Surprisingly there were no seats left to be pre-assigned on the main deck. I normally travel with 1 piece of carry-on baggage (standard regulation size) that fits into the bins on the main deck. On occasions when I use this same bag and fly on the upper deck (other airlines), I noticed that it would not fit into the overhead bins on the upper deck and I would have to either store it in the locker at the back of the stairs or under the seat in front - this would fit if the aircraft has the current dream-time seats. However, since QF 10 is operating LHR-SIN-MEL, and the local QF office has advised me that it is quite likely this flight might just have the new sleeper beds, I wonder if there is an additional closet on the upper deck where I can leave my carry-on, or would I have to store it somewhere on the main deck ? From the picture of the new sleeper beds, it does look like I would not be able to stow any carry on under the seat in front since that space is meant for the seat/bed to extend fully.

igel, if you need it, I have a contact in QF Res SIN, who has been extremely helpful in arranging bookings, getting seat allocations, general enquiries etc. over the past 2 years.

If you want their name and direct telephone number, send me an email.

Don't know whether they can help with this particular problem though, but they may be able to get you the lower deck seat allocation that you want.

QF WP, thanks for the offer to share the contact. Actually I won't mind staying on the upper deck if there is a stowage closet in case my carry-on does not fit into the small overhead bin. Does anyone here know if such a stowage closet exists on the QF B744 configuration?

My recollection is that there is one hanging space at the top of the steps, LHS (behind the seats and near the toilet), for jackets/coats - but it's not that deep (enough to take cabin bags). But I have previously taken two FF bags up-top and been able to store one (which was very full) in a crew area. When you reach the top of the steps, it's actually behind the curtain on your RHS (where they store their own bags, headsets, etc).

Take your bag to your seat, try to fit it in the overhea locker and then ask them kindly (to stow in that area I mentioned). Smile and see how it goes...

(Edited for poor spelling)

Slightly O/T, it is interesting to see comments made here in the past about the upper deck being more crowded than the lower deck, showing true in a booking coming up in Aug. On checkmytrip, the upper deck is showing up as 4 spare seats while on the lower, there are only 6 seats reserved. Me thinks if this flight is going to be fairly empty downstairs, i might ask at checkin for a row of 3 for the two of us.

Cheers

Me thinks you might be spot-on with your assessment, vander555. Profit from other people's decisions

The ONLY 744 upper deck seats worth "enduring" are row 16 (or maybe 11 if you like the colour of the bulkhead).
