Please explain the classes

Hi Guys

Can some of you more in the know give me a run down of the following classes and there meanings.2 SYD BKK 1815 2315 QF 1 F3 A3 J7 D3 Y9 H9 K9 M9 L9 S9#744*C . I would also assume QF do not let on how many U seats are available.

Thanks

This is how it might look on ITN, using April 2 for QF1:

Cabin Class F6 A5 J9 D2 U0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 S9 V9 O9

First
Z Award (not visible on ITN)
F Full fare
A Discount

Business
U Award (visible on ITN)
J Full fare
D Discount

Economy
X Award (not visible on ITN)
Y Full fare
B, H Discount Y, but very few conditions
K More discounted, some conditions
M, L, S, V, O are usually heavily discounted, the level of discount (and attached conditions) in the order as displayed on ITN.

Thanks</font>
Ahem never assume. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif As indicated above, the ITN site does show U.

Thanks for that. Am travelling K on QF 1 this Friday and am silver, what are the chances of a U becoming available?

You're too close to the travel date to waitlist, so start ringing NOW!!

Ring every day, even on the day of travel. I know they say they can't be done in less than 24 hours, but it has happened.

If there are D seats available, and economy is wide open, you've probably got a good chance.

SFA, I would think. If anything does come up - through a cancellation, for example - it will go to someone with a waitlisted upgrade request.

When yield management go through it 24 hours prior to departure, they will allocate most (but not all) of the unsold J seats to the waitlist.

The only way you would have even half a chance would be if the waitlist is less than the number of unsold seats, and on QF1 this close to departure, I can't see it happening.

Sorry to disappoint you.

I disagree, willyroo - people would have been waitlisting on that flight ever since U class filled up. The waitlist for flights to LHR is usually a lot more than the available seats, and at this stage, any cancellation of a U class seat will go to someone waitlisted, rather than a fresh request.

The other thing to consider is that - if the availability line in the thread starter was for the flight concerned - it only had 7 J seats available (if it was more than 9 it would have shown 9, 8 or less and it shows the actual number).

I would venture that if there were only 7 empty J seats, the waitlist will MORE than fill these seats, baring in mind that they do not let them all go, keeping a couple for last minute sales.

Thanks Willy that's what I intended to do however I suspect the Doc is closer to the mark. I waitlisted the return about a month ago which is scheduled 11-4-03. You think a better chance there? Or would a Gold, Plat or Y class waitlisting after me jump the q?
Actually break that down as I think I know the answer re: gold / plat.

Cheers

Good point - although I was thinking of BKK rather than LHR. I've been on QF1 a couple of times, and J to BKK is usually open, and full from BKK to LHR.

I'll bet you 5 Hahns he gets his upgrade, on the proviso meloz gets off at BKK. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I will be stopping BKK and am happy to supply if it is true

You're on!

At least as a Silver, hopefully meloz might figure a bit more in the "U" stakes...
