Question for the experts !!
If you purchase a discount economy ticket, and upgrade it to business class using a certificate or points, do you get tier credits based on a discount economy or business segment ?

My feeling is the ticket basis you PAID for is what QF (and others) base points/tiers upon.

If its discount economy you would recieve 70% of the km flown. You would also pay the highest points to upgrade.you are far better to choose a free business class ticket (if yoou have enough points)as you cannot confirm an upgrade till 24hrs before unless you are a high tier member

The previous replies are quite correct, you are only supposed to get the tier & award points for the class originally booked. However, it's amazing how often they get it wrong and give you points for BC instead! This is particularly so when you get a new boarding pass issued after you have checked in (a flight is cancelled, you decide to change seats or whatever).
