Howdy,

Neverdone, it so need to ask.

A guy at work is on a gold run (currently PS and wants free beer) and has a theory of beating our tight corporate travel policy by using points to upgrade for status.

Does this work (business SC's on and economy + points ticket)?

I had no idea, but have a feeling some of our esteemed FT'ers will

Hi cfcwaytobe

Status credits will only be awarded for the original class of paid travel and not for upgrades, (unless, of course, the upgrade is paid for in cash before travel commences). So using points for an upgrade (or indeed getting an operational upgrade at the gate) will only accrue the status credits for the original economy class fare paid.

LME etc etc

If you really want to disappoint him, don't tell him today. Wait until he has done all the flying, then when he complains about the SCs say, "Yeah, I knew that".
