Dining Room would be a great thing. Or just a fresh new design would be nice, too. That could be a new thread: How do you expect the ultimate QF First Lounge to look like?

It's my understanding the Sydney FC Lounge will open during the first week of May with the Lounge in Melbourne to open sometime in April.

I believe FOC wireless internet will be available in both lounges too...

Cheers

Excellent - a chance to check it out coming back from Oz Fest (if not earlier).

With MEL Hopefully the first week in April, just in time for Easter. raying:

However, given the Friday is the 6th and this new development has been going on for nearly a year I guess the old lounge will have to suffice for mrs and I.

QF NB's informative post prompted me to have a look back to a Qantas Press release from October:

Qantas today announced a partnership with luxury hotel brand Sofitel that will see the hotel group operate the airline’s new International First class lounges in Sydney and Melbourne.

Qantas Group General Manager Customer Product and Services, Ms Lesley Grant, said Sofitel’s expertise in the luxury hotel market would support Qantas’ commitment to delivering world-class levels of service.

“In creating these two new flagship lounges we have brought together partners and brands that are leaders in their fields to deliver the ultimate experience for our customers.

“The lounges will set a new benchmark in service with restaurant style dining and waiter service throughout.

“Customers will be able to order from a wide selection of freshly prepared meals designed by leading Australian chef Neil Perry.

“Sofitel will lend its expertise to all areas within the lounge and all staff will be highly skilled industry professionals with Sofitel conducting specialist training through its Acadamie Accor hotel school,” said Ms Grant.

The new Melbourne International First class lounge is scheduled to open in February 2007 and Sydney in April 2007.
So the redevelopments are both are month behind these 3rd of October estimates.

There's an article about the SYD Fist lounge in May's Australian Way Magazine.

  • "... overseen by Marc Newsom ..."
  • "... overlook the boarding agtes for Qantas' new A380 aircraft ..."
  • "... restaurant serving a comprehensive meny by Niel Perry ..."
  • "... day spa run by ... Sofitel, using product from Payot Paris. ..."
  • "... chairside waiter service ..."

A Sample menu is presented:
BreakFast (until Midday):
  • Organic Egg;
  • Smokehouse Bacon and Tomato Relish Sourdough ROll;
  • Organic Egg Omelette with Leg Ham, Leek and Gruyere;
  • Organic Eggs White Omelette with Tomato, Ricotta and Chives;
  • Whole Grain Toast with Avocado, Snow Pea Sprouts, lime and Cracked Pepper;

There will be a premium check-in:
First and Chairman's lounge customers will be checked in prior to their arrival at the airport with the majority of their departure documentation completed. On arrival. the will be greeted at the kerb by a First host and porter ... escorting them though security and immigration.

Latest from SYD lounge staff is the new F lounge due to open 21st May. They seemed sceptical that it will really open on that date.

Now that one is more of a surprise... Wonder if it will be limited by class of travel as well, rather than for the WP/CL flying discount economy

Actually, in years past I have been provided with such pre-printed departure cards. (Not in the last 3 or 4 years however.)

This service is not listed as being available for WP; it's for those travelling in First or otherwise CL's who are travelling in WHY or J.

I was told 21st for SYD. Either way, hope it doesn't get delayed again so some FTers heading home from Ozfest can get to enjoy them.

I will miss MEL by a day. That's a real shame.
