Upgrade Question

Hello,

Pardon my ignorance, only just joined Qantas FF. I'd like to upgrade my father to business class on his trip from MEL-DPS (via Perth). Given that there is no business class available on PER-DPS, am I able to upgrade only the MEL-PER component (in the 1,201-2,400 upgrade bracket)?

And just out of curiousity, as I am unfamiliar with QFs upgrades, had business class been available on PER-DPS, would I have been able to upgrade only the MEL-PER rather than MEL-PER-DPS?

P.S. I dont have flight numbers on me, but I'm assuming that a change of metal is invovled. And these are QF flight numbers, not AO (obviously).

P.S.2. My father has booked this from DPS, and as such, the booking reference is rejected by Qantas's website when I attempt to bring up the booking. Does this mean I must do it over the phone?

Thanks in advance! ... This knowledge will come in handy once I start flying Qantas!

MEL-PER-DPS is two seperate flights (& flight numbers) and so the upgrades would be seperately treated if they were able to be done on both sectors.

The good news means you will only have to fork out for the MEL-PER cost of an upgrade, if available.

The aircraft that flies up to DPS from PER has business seats (738 I think) though it is sold all economy. Not sure what the chances of bagging a more comfortable seat, but others will advise the approach here, though it would depend most likely on the status of the passenger.

There is a way around the reservation problem, but I am not an expert, best I leave it for others to reply who understand these airlines reservation systems.

The MEL-PER portion of the trip is a domestic flight so an upgrade cannot be waitlisted. You can continue to look for availability (it does change) and if it pops up the snag it. Otherwise the only option is an On Departure Upgrade that can only be done at the Qantas Club lounge so he will need to have access to the lounge in MEL.

To get the Qantas booking refernce, call Qantas Reservations and you will need to know the passenger's name, flight details, date of travel etc. They should be able to provide the booking reference.
