Perth
I am contemplating a job offer that will see me based in Perth (currently in Brisbane).
Role will require travel to Asia (mainly Singapore and Japan) as well as Australia/NZ/PNG. International will be in J with Dom being split between Y and J.
Question One
I see that QF is effectively downgrading their international service from A330s to 767s for most international services to/from Perth. Any ideas what the timeframe is for the A330s to return to these routes or for the 787s to be used?
Question Two
I could also use SQ (I am Gold with Air NZ) and CX (QF Platinum) for trips to Singapore and Japan respectively. What version of their J do they operate from Perth?
Question Three
Is there an F lounge at Perth Int?
Question Four
Air NZ operate a direct flight to Auckland. At the moment it is 767, any scuttlebutt that they will upgrade this to say 777?
Question Five
Has the QP (Domestic) changed in the last 3-4 years?
Question Six
Looking at living in or around Secret Harbor (down by Rockingham). Any idea of travel time and cost (taxi) to Airport?
Thanks for your advice.
Cheers

Hi Gazza,
1. Correct about Qantas switching all PER-NRT/HKG flights from A330-300s to 767-300s. I guess it will depend on how the 333 performs on MEL/SYD-NRT services and whether it brings in increased revenue. I'd imagine Qantas will want to keep the 333 on Japan services regardless of the fact it may continue to lose vast amounts of money. Guess we'll have to wait and see. 787s (operating QF services) won't happen for a few years yet so it's hard to say what routes they'd be used on out of PER.
2. Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific both fly their regionally configured aircraft into Perth. SQ fly the 772E/Rs with the Regional Raffles Class and CX offer A330-300 (denoted as 330 in CX timetables) with Regional J.
3. Haven't flown Int' out of Perth. EK may be the only operator of an F lounge in Perth (may be a combined J/F lounge though). I wouldn't be surprised if Qantas offered a F lounge, since it was offering First Class out of Perth up until not too long ago.
4. NZ doesn't plan to service the AKL-PER-AKL route with the 772. It will be pressed enough operating the new PVG services as well as LAX/LHR etc. 777s to Perth is a rumour that has done the rounds for some time now.
5. Having only been to PER twice (and both this year), something I can't really help you with. The current Domestic QP is nice and has good view of the regional aircraft area (BAe146 ^ ).
Cheers

Congrats on the job offer Gazza
2) SQ only has regional business class (so no spacebed). Also SIN-PER is a measly 1.25 PPS sectors.
3) Not that I recall. QF qantas club isnt huge and is shared with NZ in the evening. SQ has a lounge open around their flights, but I don't think it has a separate F side.
4) I doubt it, at least until NZ eventually gets rid of 767.
5) I don't remember much if any changes to domestic QP.

Congrats Gazza on the job offer.
The positive side of Perth is that it is about as close to to flight times as it is in Brisbane. Thought for a second you were in MEL and about to say quicker flight times.
How long will this role be? As the aircraft used for the flights cannot be predicted longterm. Just think if you had this job offer 12 months ago.

Hi Team
If I am to uproot the family (again) the move will be for a minimum 2 years.
Mind you now that Perth has a super 14 team
I know that Secret Harbour is a bit of a hike but when we went to Perth (another job offer 3 years ago) and had a look around it seemed to fit the lifestyle requirement we had (work will be paying for the taxi's)
Going throug package details now so nothing is definate, just wanted to pick the brains of those more knowledgable than me.
Cheers

In regards to the Perth Domestic QP, it was extensively renovated and expanded about a year ago - it's basically double the size that it used to be. Still gets somewhat full for the last bank of flights heading out to the East Coast in the afteroon around 4pm or for the redeyes around midnight, but at least there's seats available now, whereas it was standing room only in the past. Food generally seems to be better than is provided in the East Coast QP's too, so long as you're there at the right time anyway!
