Did QF Domestic Business Ever Receive Lounge Access?

I've never flown QF domestic business, and was surprised to learn that patrons are not entitled to lounge access?

It seems pretty cheap .

You can probably get access if you're on an intl sector

Or checkout PP rewards program for free domestic biz class flights, lol

This has been the case for a more than a decade or two. In 1994 (back as far as my experience goes), of those passengers flying domestically who did not otherwise have QP access, only First Class PAX could get in.

These days domestic F class is no more, but non elite J PAX still do not get in.

Because it flies in the face of conventional practice, it confuses most newcomers and consequently has been discussed many times on this board. It is a very different model to all the others. I was a bit dismayed when I first heard about it. But I like that they dare to be different. And once I realised I could still get access on an international F or J itinerary, I had no complaints.

The lounges are superb (at least the 3 I've seen) and purchase of membership is a bargain for frequent flyers. The fact that membership doesn't depend on class of travel is great. ( Plus members then get reciprocal lounge access benefits on AA IIRC.) The only pax who would get the short end are those who fly infrequently and in domestic J.

It's just the American model, though, isn't it? Like many other things in Australian air transport: access for all through security to domestic gates (it was the US that changed away from this in 2001) is the other great similarity that struck me.
