Upgrade chances on HKG - SYD
Hey all
My gf and I are booked on the HKG - SYD Qantas flight on 13 July (I think it's QF128). We have requested upgrades on points (we both have enough for the trip there) but are unfortunately only Bronze FF members with Qantas. Our fare code is 'V'.
The ITN site returns this: Cabin class: R4 F4 A4 J4 C4 D0 S0 Y7 B7 H4 Q0 M4 N0 K4 L4 V0 , but I'm not really sure what it means, if it means anything at all.
Is there *really* any way of working out what sort of chance we have with this information?
Thanks

Here are some numbers...
QF 128 0 HKG
06/13/06 09:10PM SYD
06/14/06 07:55AM 744 M F9 A9 Z0 P0 J9 C9 D0 I0 U0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 R9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 T0 X0 E0
QF 188 0 HKG
06/13/06 09:25AM SYD
06/13/06 08:35PM 333 BR J9 C9 D9 I7 U0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 R9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 T0 X0 E0
I'll let others do the talking... as I seems to get everything wrong as of late.
Seatmap wise...
27/50 seats not yet occupied on 128 on a Boeing 747-400...
20/30 seats not yet occupied on 188 on Airbus A330-300...
For me, I'll try to upgrade on QF 128 anyday. Boeing 747 in J surely is better then A330-300...

Unless you really want to fly J in an upper deck there really is not that much difference at all; both use sky beds (although the armrests are a bit narrower on the 333).
(Now if you were talking First Class..... )
FWIW, based on the 67% unallocated J on the 333 against the 54% of the 744 you'd have more chance on QF188 of getting upgraded.

Any ShyBed seat is better than any WHY seat! I'd target the flight that has plenty of D and I inventory. They are the cheapest Business seats and would fill first. I reckon you have the best chance for the A333 flight.
I think the 333 cabin is better than the 744 cabin (main deck) as no one gets stuck in the middle of three seats.

Thanks for the comments guys. Unfortunately, due to connecting flights and annual leave issues, we've got no choice as to which flight we take.
I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best. Nevertheless, if we fail for upgrades on the way over, we can always request them on the way back.
Cheers
