Qantas website problems?

It is about 9.00pm and I am trying to book some domestic trips on the Qantas website however continue to get a "The page cannot be displayed" error after inputting all the details. The Qantas home page is okay, just both the Red E-Deals booking page and the booking facility on the home page both come up with the same error.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Yep site is borked for booking flights and reviewing previously booked flights. Award bookings still look ok.

The issue is that a transaction server called "book.qantas.com.au" is not responding.

It's not even in the DNS, so your computer can't find it.

I don't recall "book.qantas.com.au" being used before for bookings. Has IT been making more changes without proper testing again?

As a workaround while the IT boys are probably playing "Who's gonna tell the boss" and rapidly trying to propogate a DNS entry across the Internet:

The change that seems to have been made is the migration of booking services from the application server http://wftc3.e-travel.com/ to http://book.qantas.com.au/

When the booking fails, simply replace http://book.qantas.com.au/ in the URL bar with http://wftc3.e-travel.com/ and hit enter. Your search will load correctly.

Note this may go totally wrong for you. You take full and any responsibility for anything that goes wrong with the booking :D :D

I noticed the book. url being used at least a few days ago, if not a week. So its not new tonight.

All is working again, in any case.

Note to QF

It may be the middle of the night in Sydney, but it isn't the middle of the night in the UK.

And I now have DJ's fares in front of me, as they weren't that bad a way of flying when I had to do it last time.

It's back up again.

And, funnily enough, the URL is now back to http://wftc3.e-travel.com/ :D

They've migrated the site back to book.qantas.com.au and all seems to be working properly.

This time they have a DNS entry that resolves and all!

For the techos amongst us, they seem to be Akami load balancing for this site. For the non-techs it means they should have better performance and speedier results due to them having many copies of the site around the world.

As long as their configuration management can keep it together.

Akami have recently changed their systems rather majorly. They used to peer via a few of their hosting partners in AU, but due to a certain computer companys launch of a certain portable music player with video capability and video clips for sale through its store, Akami changed policy. Totally O/T to FF'ers but I hope it remains stable. It's been dodgy of late :td:

Does this apply to the entire QF site, or just the booking side? The time taken to get stuff from the QF site when over on this side of the world has always irritated me a bit. I know the problem doesn't lie in the QF site itself, as it's lightning fast when I'm in Australia.

This morning (UK time), there were still some odd pages that didn't come up when links were clicked on, but it's good that most of the functionality is back.

The entire site uses load balancing / redundancy technology through "Akamai". Which theoretically means you should get good performance from the Qantas site no matter where you are in the world or how busy the site is.

If you really want to read up about the technology used: http://www.akamai.com/en/html/servic..._services.html

Now of course that probably depends on what sort of $$ Qantas pays for the service.

Generally slowness can be at various locations on the net. I'm not sure how fast the QF site loads in the UK. Will have to give it a try when I'm over there in 2 months!
