Question Ease of Access of oneWORLD louges for SG & WP when not on that carrier?

In this thread: "Trip Report – QF5….hang on, QF5D…. err, I mean QF8005!", I posted a tip re access to other oneWORLD lounges for SG's and WP's:
as a oneWORLD sapphire you could have accessed the CX lounge nr GT 42
Yesterday we (myself & mrs serfty) attended this lounge in SIN before catching my QF flight back to MEL. While I did gain entry, it was not without a "suggestion" that I was at the wrong place. I was pleasantly persistant, advising I would like to use this lounge.

While the Lounge staff were polite at all times, I had the impression they would have preferred I was not there.

The last time I did this was as an Emerald in HKG, back in 2000 (no guest) and the staff could not have been more pleasant.

Have any of you Sapphires or Emeralds out there any recent experience with doing this type of thing?

I've used the CX lounge in Bangkok when flying on QF and BA, and used the QF/BA lounge when flying CX. And of course I always use the Wing or Pier in HK when flying QF or BA as well as CX. No problems at either place (I'm QF platinum), but haven't tried anything other than the QF/BA or SQ lounges in Singapore.

They were obviously fearful about their stocks of beer after seeing me recently there one morning demolishing their stockpile!

Maybe the QF WP card tipped them off?

Have had no problems in HKG with swapping lounges. Havn't really tried it elsewhere.

Only once. In December I was travelling Washington Dulles (IAD) - LAX - SYD in Y as an AA Plat (OW Sapphire).

At IAD I went to the BA lounge and asked if I could go in, since I was travelling internationally on QF later in the day. He said, "Yes you can, but you realise there is an AA Admirals Club down the corridor?" I told him that I knew that, but that I hadn't been into the BA club since their renovations, and wanted to check them out.

Now, this reason was actually true, but what I was really thinking was, "Yes, but the AC is tiny and has bad wines and bottom-shelf spirits served by a bartender who wants a tip (or more if I am unable to prise more than one voucher from the lounge dragons), whereas you have an open bar where I can serve myself the decent stuff that you stock!"

I was let in with no more ado, apart from a statement that my flight would not be called from the BA lounge. Fine, I am quite capable of telling the time and looking at monitors - I think I'll cope. (No, I didn't actually say that - I was polite the whole time.)

I always thought that allowing other elites into their lounges was a money-making prospect, with the airline with whom you have status paying the airline whose lounge you use. You'd think they would welcome it, unless the people at the door don't realise that.

Being invited to use another lounge where one exists and seems more logical to the bouncer is a very common occurence both OW and *A.

Loads of times in HKG this year. CX staff at the Wing have had absolutely no problems with admitting a BA pax whether flying as BA Silver or QF Gold (both OW Sapphire), and whether flying in Y or W - in fact, they could not have been more welcoming.

Well, to be honest, I suppose they could, but I shouldn't go there.

I have done the above in SIN (when flying either QF or AY) without any problems whatsoever in the past so maybe you got a dragon on his/her off day. It is certainly well within the rules.

On the topic, I can only recall one time when I was reminded that the carriers lounge (UA in this instance) was "over there" (by the nice NZ desk dragons in SYD). I said that I'd like to see a "much nicer lounge" and they grinned and welcomed me to "help myself".

Yes, the NZ lounge in SYD is about 10 orders of magnitude better than the overcrowded and under equipped RCC. I just wonder how many of the UA PremEx's knew they could have gone to the NZ lounge instead?

Noting that a visit to a Cathay CLK lounge is has almost become a oneWORLD rite of passage I would expect that the CX Lounge staff in HKG are quite used to this occurrance.

I'm departing MEL this Friday on CX104 to Hong Kong in J.

How does their lounge compare to the QP? Is it worth a look or should I just head to the QP?

Hot food, wonton noodles. Bar, ice-cream. Free wifi QP don't have from my memory lane.

Heading to the CX First lounge tomorrow.

At HKG maybe..certainly not in MEL which is what bravoecho is asking about. The QP here is better in just about every possible way..much more spacious, outside views, better food/wine/amenities.
