Booking QF Codeshare on AA.com

Howdy
Had an interesting conversation yesterday with Qantas.
Only having Australian Credit cards, booking flights here in the US is a never ending problem 4 me, except with AA.com.

Yesterday, I was pricing up a trip home to AUS. Looked at qantas.com and compared with AA.com. AA was cheaper by about $100.

So I was just about to book, when I thought I'd ring Qantas to ask them about AA Q class, and where it fits in, with all their funky rule changes every few months.

The lady didn't know, so she put me on hold to ask their CSM. She came back and told me "Bookings made on AA.com on QF metal with AA flight numbers are not eligible for QFF points.

I nearly fell off my chair. Could this be true???

If it helps I can tell you that AA international Q class tickets don't earn AA miles although domestic Q class ticket do earn AA miles. Perhaps this now extends to QF.

I know that its stupid. I don't make the rules...

There is no issue with booking an AA codeshare on QF metal wherever you book it.

With this specific query, the mileage earning to QF will , of course, be dependent on the rules for earning miles on an AA flight.

Q class on an AA flight will earn you zero miles and status credits

methinks the agent was getting confoozled ; she was right that no miles would be earned, but her reason was wrong

GLMNSV - earn 50% miles
BHKY - earn 100% miles
DIJ - earn 125% miles
AFP - earn 150% miles

All other classes are ineligable for mileage earning

Did you try pricing the flights out using the QF flight number on the AA site as well? you may find that the fare prices out lower there than from qantas.com

Hi Dave
Thanks for that.
Makes sense now. The rep was talking that any flight wouldnt, but now knowing Q Class on AA Int doesnt earn points, the whole thing makes sense.

Also tried what you recommended. It increased the price by $50. So what they are saying is pay the extra $50, and you get 100 SC and 15000 miles, not a bad deal, if you ask me....

Thanks again

Robert
