Who said KLM is going anywhere? They sure have not told me.
Qantas is of course the longest continuously flying airline - KLM in Holland during parts of WW2 was not operating IIRC, due to Mr Hitler & Co.

Interestingly, according to at least two sources (including the Encyclopaedia Britannica), KLM continued to fly during most of WWII. Some routes were based in the Dutch colonies of East Asia (with services to 'Europe' terminating initially in Italy, then later Africa - until sometime in 1941/2), while the other part of the network was based in the Dutch East Indies and began, as far as I can tell, in 1941. All intra-European services terminated from May 1940, and resumed, domestically, in 1945.

Well your extensive research didn't show this it seems:

Chalks Ocean Airways is the oldest continuously operating airline in the world - or so they say. You know what they say about statistics.
I guess if Qantas ran some AirLink type flights in the highlands of New Guinea during the War if we were occupied, they'd pull out the same logic as KLM has.

a) They are like bikinis - what they reveal is interesting, but what they conceal is far more important !
and
b) that 38.3% of them are made up on the spot !

An interesting quote found here :
"However, after 1939 and especially after Japan's invasion of the islands to the north in 1941, civil aviation was sacrificed to military needs. By the end of the war, there were only nine domestic airlines remaining, eight smaller regional concerns and ANA, a conglomerate owned by British and Australian shipping interests which had a virtual monopoly on the major trunk routes and received 85% of all government air transport subsidies."
