Status Question
Having not retained Silver this year and with my overall flying with Qantas declining over the last few years for business reasons, I wondered why I always seem to get allocated row 1 when flying J. Also when flying Y I get the exit rows quite a bit.
I have just returned from a trip to Perth (using FF points) flying PER-MEL-SYD where I was 1A & 1J. The PER-MEL leg was full and although MEL-SYD was only half full surely there were regular flyers on their with higher status than myself.
Anyone have any ideas why I get allocated these seats. Is it just one of those unexplained Qantas mysteries. Not that I am complaining of course
Cheers,
Russell

I think if you have selected window in your profile it is easy to get up the front as most FF'ers select aisle preference.
I have been mucking around with my preference and if I select aisle I am usually between row 5 and row 20 and selecting window I am row 1 to row 5.

Your seating preferences are stored against your FF number when you join QFF. If you never join QP or reach PS, they are stored as null data entries. If you do join QP or become PS, your are asked for them and the data gets updated accoring to your advice.
While you no longer have that status level; this information does not get wiped and is still used for seating pre-allocation; all-be-it at a low priority.
Other than that, often the first rows of popular flights are excluded from pre-allocation in case the odd CL wants a flight at short notice; so maybe this is all that was left
.
