Vod

My parents just flew from BNE - SIN on one of the new A330s. The VOD was installed. They said they had about 30 movies to choose from as well as a few dozen other programmes. The system was very fast to respond (much faster than Singapore's system) they say ....

Loved the A330, even in Y. Can't beat the two seats at the side when travelling together ....

The questions beg then:

1. Is this going to be installed on 747s and when ?

2. Are people going to route via BNE on their way to SIN or London (probably adding an hour to the trip) just to travel on the A330 with two (instead of three) seats at the window, and VOD ?

I got this the other day on a PER-SYD flight, and was quite happy with it. It was certainly faster than I had expected. Only problem I had was with the controller location in the side of the chair as I bumped a few buttons a couple of times.

Just had a couple of flights MEL-HKG return on the A330. The VOD system is certainly a welcome improvement but QF still seems to have a few teasing problems as on both flights I experienced break up of the video and audio signals and the problem was not confined to my seat.

Yes, it will be rolled out to the 747-400 fleet, not sure about the 747-300's though. Qantas claim they will start the 744 rollout around May. Its a reasonably minor hardware upgrade that is required, but a bigger upgrade than was needed on the newer A330-300 systems.

Well I will no longer be looking to route vai SYD or MEL on my way out of the country. I used to do that to get Skyeds, but the A330-300 BNE-SIN and BNE-HKG will do me very nicely, and the AVOD is an added bonus.

Had very positive reports from my 4 and 2 year olds about AVOD on the 333 from BNE-SIN late last week...
